Kurdistan Region reassures airline carriers on safety of its airspace
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (gov.krd) – Kurdistan Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani, yesterday chaired a meeting to discuss and assess the state of airports and flights in the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting was attended by KRG Ministers of Interior, Natural Resources, Planning, Transportation and the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations and the Government Spokesperson along with the Governor of Erbil and officials from the Ministries of Peshmerga Affairs, Finance, Trade and Industry and the airports of the Kurdistan Region.
They discussed the state of the airports, flights security, Kurdistan’s connection to the outside world.
Commenting on the suspension of flights by some airlines due to the security situation in Iraq in general, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani stressed that “the airspace of the Kurdistan Region is safe and the airports are far from any security risk.”
The possibilities to increase air traffic with the view to boosting economic and trade relations and developing Kurdistan Region’s relations with the outside world, were also discussed in the meeting.
