President Masoud Barzani yesterday met Northern Ireland's First and Deputy First Minister and the Speaker of the Assembly in his first official visit to Belfast which was hosted by Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster.

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq for the first time participated in FITUR 2013, the international tourism fair that took place between the 30th of January and 3rd of February in Madrid, in order to present and promote the region as a tourist hotspot. The region was represented by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representation in Spain, Kurdistan General Board of Tourism and Marjan Group.

Given that the larger share of FDI is currently coming into the region from Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, Kuwait – close neighbours, the question could be asked why not a show of larger US or European role. Are these heavy-hitters hesitant to invest in Kurdistan or is a matter of time.
