Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Meets with the Commander of the Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (dfr.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received Major General Eric T. Hill, Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve Commander in Iraq and Syria.

Prime Minister Barzani discussed the ongoing threat of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the challenge it presents to displaced families wishing to return home.

Prime Minister Barzani provided an update on the coordinated efforts of the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces to eliminate the so-called Islamic State and protect the people of Iraq.

Commander Hill praised the Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces’ robust partnership and affirmed the coalition’s support for cooperation between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government of Iraq.

Prime Minister Barzani informed Commander Hill of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to establishing a constructive and stable relationship with Baghdad, underpinned by the Kurdistan Region’s rights under the constitution.

KRG Agrees Actions on Intellectual Property, Support for Farmers and Border Security

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today chaired a meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), reaching key decisions on important domestic issues.

The KRG agreed that it would update and fully implement legislation on intellectual property, protecting the Kurdistan Region’s entrepreneurs, academics and businesses from infringement. A legal committee will also be established to review new draft legislation for approval in this session of the Kurdistan Parliament.

In recognition of the importance of the Kurdistan Region’s agricultural workers, the KRG agreed that it would remove the debts of around 9,000 hardworking farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources will repay over IQD 222 billion (USD 186 million) in line with the new government’s objective of developing and diversifying the Kurdistan Region’s economy.

The KRG also elected to form a special committee to enhance coordination and communication between entry points along the Kurdistan Region’s border to improve security and trade with neighbouring countries.

President Barzani Meets Top US Diplomat in Iraq

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with the United States Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller.

Latest political developments in Iraq, including talks between Erbil and Baghdad to address outstanding issues, were discussed in the meeting.

President Barzani and the U.S. ambassador stressed the need for continued efforts to resolve pressing issues in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution , such as disputed areas, budget, oil and Kirkuk governorship.

The Kurdistan Region President said that Iraq needs continued assistance from the multinational coalition forces, as the threat of terror re-emergence still exists.

The United States Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, Steve Fagin, also participated in the meeting.

Iraqi and Kurdistan Region Presidents Discusses Erbil-Baghdad Relations

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, 17 September 2019

Iraqi President Barham Salih and the President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani stressed on further strengthening relations between Erbil and Baghdad and continued efforts to address outstanding issues in accordance with the Constitution of Iraq.

The two leaders discussed pressing issues between the federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, such as next year’s fiscal budget, Article 140 of Iraqi Constitution, and the threat of terror and extremism.

The meeting also focused on the importance of preserving the unity of Kurdistan parties in Iraq, consensus on crucial issues and working towards strengthening the relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, Vice Presidents of the Kurdistan Region, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Iraq and a number of Kurdistan Regional Government officials attended the meeting.

President Salih and his accompanied delegation arrived in Erbil Tuesday afternoon and they were received in the airport by President Barzani.

President Barzani: Iraq and Kurdistan Need More Foreign Investment

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, 12 September 2019 – President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani stressed the importance of attracting more foreign investment to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

In a meeting with Iraqi Minister of Planning Nuri Sabah Al-Dulaimi, President Barzani highlighted the need for sound policies and effective plans for attracting and managing foreign investments.

Both sides discussed the preparations for holding general census in Iraq and underlined the importance of cooperation between relevant institutions of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the international organizations in the process.

They also discussed the Iraqi budget law for 2020 and the reconstruction of areas destroyed during the fight against terror.

Prime Minister Barzani chairs meeting to discuss government priorities

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today chaired a meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to discuss a range of key priorities.

The meeting approved an essential overhaul of the Kurdistan Region’s taxation system and agreed further actions regarding the KRG’s engagement with the federal government of Iraq.

The meeting discussed the formation of a special committee to oversee preparations for the Iraqi national census in 2020.

The KRG agreed to send a delegation to Baghdad next week to ensure the Kurdistan Region’s interests are represented in the 2020 Iraqi budget. The government will invite Iraq’s finance, oil and gas, and legal parliamentary committees for further in-depth discussions.

A government delegation is due to update the Kurdistan Parliament on the progress of talks between the KRG and the Iraqi government on Thursday.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives Iraq’s Minister of Planning

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received the Minister of Planning for Iraq, Nouri Sabah al-Dulaimi.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani and the Minister agreed that improved relations between Erbil and Baghdad have opened a path to constructive dialogue.

Kurdistan Region President Meets Top UN Official in Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, 9 September 2019 – President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani met with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, United Nations Secretary-General Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

During the meeting, President Barzani commended the role of the United Nations and highlighted the significance of the continuation of UNAMI’s support to federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
