Prime Minister Barzani receives Germany’s new Consul General to the Kurdistan Region

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Kurt Georg Stockl-Stillfried, the new Consul General of Germany in Erbil.

The General Consul  stressed that the German Government places great importance to its relations with the Kurdistan Region and voiced the need to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Barzani wished the new Consul General success in his new position, and he expressed his appreciation for Germany’smilitary and humanitarian support to the Kurdistan Region, especially in the field of military training. He also expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral ties between Erbil and Berlin.

Prime Minister Barzani discussed the tragedies that the people of Iraqi Kurdistan went through in the past decades. He stressed the referendum that the Kurdistan Region will hold later this month is a mean to define the relations between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region in a way to prevet the recurrence of past tragedies and atrocities committed against the people of Kurdistan.

He stressed the need to resolve the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad through serious dialogue and mutual understanding, in which, he said, the International Community can play an important role.

Prime Minister Barzani meets Kuwaiti envoy in the Kurdistan Region

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Omar Al-Kandari, the Consul General of the State of Kuwait in Erbil.

In the meeting, the Kuwaiti envoy reiterated his desire to strengthen bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait. He briefed the Prime Minister on the humanitarian support provided by the Kuwaiti aid organizations to refugees and internally displaced persons based in the Kurdistan Region, and thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government and aid organizations in the Region for their support.

The Consul General also stated that they will encourage Kuwaiti investors to visit Kurdistan and discover investment potentials here.

For his part, Prime Minister Barzani thanked Mr. AL-Kandari for his visit and expressed his appreciation to Kuwait for providing humanitarian assistance to  the refugees and IDPs in the Region.

Mr. Barzani also stressed the need to boost bilateral relations between Erbil and Kuwait, noting that the Kurdistan Regional Government will provide assistance to the Kuwaiti businesses to invest in Kurdistan.

The two sides also discussed the planned independence referendum in the Kurdistan Region, future relations between Erbil and Baghdad and other issues.

Prime Minister Barzani receives letter from Korean President

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Park Young-Kyu, the Consul General of Korea in Erbil and his accompanying delegation.

Mr. Park conveyed a letter from Mr. Moon Jae-In, President of the Republic of Korea, inviting stronger relations between Erbil and Seoul.

He expressed Korea’s readiness to cooperate with the Kurdistan Region on technology development and discussed the Korean International Cooperation Agency’s (KOICA) capacities to help with electricity production and distribution.

He also expressed his government’s interest in helping to strengthen the public sector and said next month they will open a center to train public employees.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his appreciation for President Moon’s letter and stressed the KRG’s desire also to strengthen bilateral relations between Erbil and Seoul.

Prime Minister Barzani said that the KRG will welcome Korean companies to invest in the Kurdistan Region and share their expertise, especially in the field of e-governance.

Prime Minister Barzani’s message on Eid al-Adha

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, issued the following message:

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha I extend my best wishes to the families of our martyrs and congratulate all Muslims in Kurdistan and around the world. On this Eid, with our deepest gratitude, we remember and honor our highly-esteemed martyrs.

As a celebration of peace and reconciliation, may this Eid inspire unity and coexistence among all religious communities. After decades of struggle and sacrifice, may our people progress through dialogue toward an important step in securing their legitimate rights.

I wish everyone a peaceful holiday period and look forwards to the next Eid where we will hopefuly be in a new era of freedom without war and terrorism, and those who fled in fear to the safety and security of our land return to their homes and rebuild their lives.
