The representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government to Spain, Mr. Daban Shadala, made ​​an official visit to Portugal, during which he held meetings with officials and private sector representatives. This was the first official visit that Mr. Shadala has made to Portugal. Mr. Shadala went with the objective of establishing the first official contact with the Portuguese government and private sector entities, and to determine if there are points of interest for future cooperation in the areas of education, culture, politics and business.

The tourism sector in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan Region has grown faster than expected, with 15,000 tourist facilities completed before time, officials said. The three-province enclave in northern Iraq is populated by ethnic Kurds who have taken advantage of the autonomy granted to them following the 2003 US-led invasion that toppled dictator Saddam Hussein in Baghdad, and transformed their region into an oasis of relative tranquility and booming economic growth.
